Job summary

The City Center YMCA in Lancaster, PA is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor to teach lessons, promote water safety, and help participants gain confidence in the water. You will follow established curricula and provide a positive, supportive learning environment for a range of ages and skill levels.

Flexible daytime and evening hours include Saturday mornings. Must hold CPR Pro and First Aid, and pass background clearances; prior aquatics experience is preferred and training is provided.

Qualifications

• Current CPR Pro and First Aid certifications required or ability to obtain upon hire.
• PA State Police Clearance, Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Clearance, and Mandated Reporter Certification required.
• Strong knowledge of swimming techniques, water safety principles, and instructional methods.
• Excellent communication, customer service, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to lift and move swim equipment and assist children participating in aquatic programs.
• Previous swim instruction, coaching, or aquatics experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create a positive, encouraging learning environment that supports skill progression and confidence building.
• Build strong relationships with swimmers, parents, and caregivers through effective communication and ongoing feedback.
• Maintain accurate attendance records, participant evaluations, and required program documentation.
• Follow all YMCA policies, aquatic safety standards, and emergency response procedures.
• Complete incident and accident reports when necessary.
• Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and in-service education sessions.
• Assist with equipment setup, organization, and maintaining a safe instructional environment.

The City Center YMCA is seeking enthusiastic and dependable Swim Instructors to help participants develop water safety skills, improve swimming ability, and gain confidence in the water.
