Job summary

R.F. Wilkinson Family YMCA in Williamsburg, VA is seeking a Swim Instructor to teach proper stroke technique and water safety under YMCA policies. You will engage members, support staff, and uphold the center’s safety and service standards.

The role requires lifeguard certifications or cross-over plans, CPR/First Aid, and successful completion of required trainings. Expect collaborative teamwork and focus on youth development, healthy living, and community impact.

Qualifications

• Red Cross Lifeguarding/YMCA Lifeguarding preferred; cross over within six months.
• Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or YMCA Swim Lesson preferred.
• Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED/O2.
• Background checks including CPS and required trainings.

Responsibilities

• Teach swim lessons in the water to assigned groups for scheduled sessions.
• Ensure equipment and supplies are accessible before class.
• Maintain skills checklist for each student.
• Be familiar with swim levels you are certified to teach.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Lead in emergencies and follow Emergency Operations Plan.
