Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is seeking a Swim Instructor to lead Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced classes with a focus on safety, technique, and engaging instruction. Instructors should arrive prepared with rosters, equipment, and clear attendance records for each session.

Responsibilities include developing lesson plans, evaluating strokes, and conducting group and private lessons while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic approach and coordinating with lifeguards and staff meetings.

Qualifications

• Swim Instructor Basic: CPR and First Aid completion cards; YMCA Swim Lesson Certification within nine months.
• Swim Instructor Intermediate: CPR and First Aid completion cards; one swim lesson certification.
• Swim Instructor Advance: CPR and First Aid completion cards; multiple aquatics certifications including relevant lifeguard and instructor certs.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety procedures are in place for the class being taught.
• Communicate directions and corrections clearly.
• Maintain class control and discipline at all times.
• Develop lesson plans for each class; provide substitutes with a slip signed for missed classes.
• Evaluate stroke technique and keep progress records up to date.
• Teach group and private lessons; attend staff meetings.
