Job summary

YMCA of Greater Hartford is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor to lead swimming classes under the Aquatics Director. You will greet participants, deliver lessons, and reinforce YMCA values while ensuring safety and program quality.

The role emphasizes relationship-building with students and parents, maintaining records, and supporting staff with schedules and equipment. A 16+ age, lifeguard-ready status, and YMCA certification are required.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Current YMCA swim instructor certificate or equivalent.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification (infant, child and adult) optional.
• Oxygen Admin and First Aid certification optional.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons following YMCA guidelines with prepared lesson plans.
• Builds authentic relationships with students and parents; encourages involvement and volunteers.
• Maintains attendance and progress records.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Follows YMCA policies, safety procedures and completes required reports.
• Organizes class equipment and reports damaged items.
• Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.
• Provides a substitute lesson plan when needed.
• Promotes YMCA mission and values.
• Enforces pool rules and handles all assigned duties.
