Qualifications

• Must have PR/CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid certifications.
• Must be 16 years of age or older and capable of teaching swimming skills.
• Proficient swimming and safety skills with reliable technique.
• Previous swimming or water-safety instruction experience preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for diverse groups.
• Ability to work effectively with participants of varying ages and abilities.
• Knowledge of water safety practices and emergency procedures.
• Punctual, dependable, and positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Conduct swimming lessons for children, teens, and adults across skill levels.
• Develop and implement YMCA-aligned lesson plans and safety protocols.
• Monitor participants’ progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Enforce pool safety rules and ensure a safe environment at all times.
• Maintain pool area and equipment cleanliness and organization.
• Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and team members.

Everyone knows the pool is the coolest place to be in the summer. Join our Aquatics Team to make sure everyone can enjoy the pool in a safe and welcoming environment. Whether you’re a lifeguard, a swim instructor, or a little bit of both, you’re going to love working in aquatics at the Y because you’re helping swimmers feel confident and gain experience in the water.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Must be certified in PR/CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid.
• Must be 16 years of age and show technical ability in swim skill instruction.

• Previous experience teaching swimming or water safety preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
