Job summary

Goldfish Swim School in Morrisville, NC is hiring for an entry‑level lifeguard/deck teacher role. You will provide swim instruction, enforce safety rules, and assist with progress reporting. On‑the‑job training is provided and certification updates occur within 90 days of hire.

The position offers a flexible schedule, advancement opportunities, and paid on‑the‑job training. Applicants must be 15 years or older and able to work with children in a fast-paced aquatic environment.

Qualifications

• Certified lifeguard or related childcare/coach experience required.
• Swimming experience preferred but not required.
• Certifications due within 90 days of hire; on-site training available.

Responsibilities

• Provide swim instruction based on Goldfish Swim School curriculum.
• Enforce safety rules and perform rescues and first aid as needed.
• Evaluate students’ progress and complete required paperwork promptly.
• Communicate with parents/guardians about activities and progress.
• Act as a GSS ambassador to ensure parental satisfaction.
• Inspect pool areas for safety and cleanliness and report issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provides swim instruction based on the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.
2. Enforces safety rules and regulations to prevent accidents. Makes rescues and administers first aid when necessary.
3. Evaluates students’ progress, and completes required paperwork in a timely manner.
4. Interacts with parents/guardians on the activities and development of students’ swim skills.
5. Acts as a GSS “ambassador” to ensure parental satisfaction.
6. Uses problem solving and creative thinking skills to identify and resolve challenges that students encounter.
7. Inspects pool areas before and after each class for possible maintenance, cleanliness or damage issues. Reports issues to management as appropriate.
8. Maintains and ensures proper storage of all pool equipment. Places and removes lane lines.
9. Reports accidents and incidents to management. Completes required documentation and paperwork.
10. Performs Deck Teacher and lifeguard duties as needed.
11. Performs light cleaning duties such as window washing, deck mopping, trash removal etc. on occasion.
12. Attend required/mandatory workshops and in-service training outside of regular working hours.
13. Fulfills other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Employer.

Education/Experience

Experience as a certified lifeguard, youth sports instructor/coach, camp counselor and/or childcare provider required. Swimming experience preferred, but not required.

Certificates and Licenses

Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certification required within 90 days of employment - training available on site.

Work Environment

While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heat and humidity. Noise level is usually moderate.
