Job summary

Goldfish Swim School of Sugar Land is seeking a Swim Instructor to teach water safety and swim technique using our curriculum. You’ll work with children and coordinate with the Deck Supervisor to ensure a positive learning environment.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, 2+ years as a swim instructor, and Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid certifications. The role may involve some light cleaning and fleet duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is preferred.
• Two or more years as a swimming instructor required.
• Experience as lifeguard, youth sports instructor, or childcare provider preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide swim instruction based on Goldfish Swim School curriculum.
• Enforce safety rules and administer first aid when needed.
• Evaluate student progress and complete required paperwork.
• Interact with parents/guardians about child’s development.
• Maintain pool area cleanliness and report issues.
• Perform deck duties and light cleaning as required.

Job Title: Swim Instructor

Reports to: Deck Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary: Instructs students on water safety and proper swim techniques based on thorough knowledge of the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provides swim instruction based on the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.
2. Enforces safety rules and regulations to prevent accidents. Makes rescues and administers first aid when necessary.
3. Evaluates students’ progress, and completes required paperwork in a timely manner.
4. Interacts with parents/guardians on the activities and development of students’ swim skills.
5. Acts as a GSS “ambassador” to ensure parental satisfaction.
6. Uses problem solving and creative thinking skills to identify and resolve challenges that students encounter.
7. Inspects pool areas before and after each class for possible maintenance, cleanliness or damage issues. Reports issues to management as appropriate.
8. Maintains and ensures proper storage of all pool equipment. Places and removes lane lines.
9. Reports accidents and incidents to management. Completes required documentation and paperwork.
10. Performs Deck Teacher duties as needed.
11. Performs light cleaning duties such as window washing, deck mopping, trash removal etc. on occasion.
12. Attend required/mandatory workshops and in-service training outside of regular working hours.
13. Fulfils other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Employer.

Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED is preferred. Experience as a certified lifeguard, youth sports instructor/coach, camp counselor and/or childcare provider required. Two or more years as a swimming instructor required. Swimming experience preferred.

Certificates and Licenses: Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certification required. Shallow water attendant highly recommended.

Work Environment: While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heat and humidity. Noise level is usually moderate.
