Job summary

Goldfish Swim School – Spring is seeking a dedicated Swim Instructor to teach children water safety and swimming techniques using our established curriculum. Instructors report to the Deck Supervisor and support a fun, energetic team environment in a 90-degree pool setting.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED (two+ years of instructor experience preferred) and CPR/AED/First Aid certifications; lifeguard experience is a plus. Flexible shifts and growth opportunities abound.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Two or more years of swimming instructor experience required.
• Experience as lifeguard or youth coach recommended.
• Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Provide swim instruction based on the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.
• Enforce safety rules and regulations; perform rescues and administer first aid when necessary.
• Evaluate students’ progress and complete required paperwork promptly.
• Interact with parents/guardians on the activities and development of students’ swim skills.
• Maintain pool areas before/after classes; report issues to management.
• Perform Deck Teacher duties and light cleaning as needed.
• Attend required workshops and in-service training outside regular hours.

Job Title: Swim Instructor

Reports to: Deck Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary: Instructs students on water safety and proper swim techniques based on thorough knowledge of the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provides swim instruction based on the Goldfish Swim School curriculum.
2. Enforces safety rules and regulations to prevent accidents. Makes rescues and administers first aid when necessary.
3. Evaluates students’ progress, and completes required paperwork in a timely manner.
4. Interacts with parents/guardians on the activities and development of students’ swim skills.
5. Acts as a GSS “ambassador” to ensure parental satisfaction.
6. Uses problem solving and creative thinking skills to identify and resolve challenges that students encounter.
7. Inspects pool areas before and after each class for possible maintenance, cleanliness or damage issues. Reports issues to management as appropriate.
8. Maintains and ensures proper storage of all pool equipment. Places and removes lane lines.
9. Reports accidents and incidents to management. Completes required documentation and paperwork.
10. Performs Deck Teacher duties as needed.
11. Performs light cleaning duties such as window washing, deck mopping, trash removal etc. on occasion.
12. Attend required/mandatory workshops and in-service training outside of regular working hours.
13. Fulfills other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the Employer.

Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED is preferred. Experience as a certified lifeguard, youth sports instructor/coach, camp counselor and/or childcare provider required. Two or more years as a swimming instructor required. Swimming experience preferred.

Certificates and Licenses: Lifeguard, CPR/AED and First Aid certification required. Shallow water attendant highly recommended.

Work Environment: While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to heat and humidity. Noise level is usually moderate.
