Job summary

Mystic Valley YMCA Aquatics Department is hiring part-time swim instructors in Malden, MA. Classes run Tue–Sat and cover Parent with Child, Preschool, and Youth levels, following a standard curriculum.

Pay is $16.00 to $18.00 per hour. Paid training is provided, and CPR certification training is required after hire. Minimum age to apply is 16 years old. Schedules are flexible and include evenings and Saturdays.

Qualifications

• Provide swim instruction based on the set curriculum.
• Enforce safety rules and regulations.
• Evaluates students’ progress, take attendance, complete progress reports every session for each student
• Ensure every child connects with their guardian after class.
• Interact with parents/guardians and Aquatics Director on child’s skills and progress.
• Set up and put away all materials used for each class.
• Reports accidents and incidents to management. Completes required documentation and paperwork.
• Minimum age to be a swim instructor is 16 years old.
• Swim classes run Tue–Fri 3:30-7:00pm and Saturdays 9:30-noon. Schedules are flexible.

The Mystic Valley YMCA Aquatics Department is hiring part time swim instructors for group swim classes.

About the Classes

All group classes have a standard curriculum and run for6to 8-weeksessions.Classes run Tuesday through Saturday.

Parent with Child classes are for ag es 6 months to 3 years and their p arents / guardians. Instru ctors lead the adults in teaching the c hildren to explore body positions, floating, blowing bubbles, and fundamental safety and aquatic skills through songs, games, and play.

Preschool classes are for children between the ages of 3 and 6. There are 4 levels, each building upon the previous class ranging from Water Acclimation to Stroke Introduction.

Youth classes are for children aged 6 to 17 years. There are 6 levels ranging from Water Acclimation to Stroke Mechanics.

Interview & Hiring process

• Phone Screening
• In person interview and swimming test. The swimming test consists of 1 lap (25 meters) of each of the following: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, side stroke, elementary backstroke, in addition to 2 minutes treading without the use of arms.
• CORI/SORI screening

Paid training provided.

Training for CPR certification must be completed after hire .

The minimum age to be a swim instructor is 16 years old.

Swim classes run Tuesday through Friday from 3:30-7:00pm and Saturdays from 9:30 to noon. Schedules are flexible.
