Job summary

YMCA of Honolulu is seeking a Lifeguard to ensure the safety of all program participants and follow the YUSA Swim Lesson curriculum. Candidates must be at least 16 years old and comfortable in the water. The YMCA provides training, including certification within 6 months, and offers a variety of benefits such as free Y membership and discounts on programs. This position involves positive communication with members and creating a safe, engaging environment for children and families.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 or older.
• No certification necessary; certification will be paid for within 6 months of hire.
• Must be comfortable and confident in the water.
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents.
• Physical ability to act swiftly in emergency situations.
• Ability to observe participant activities and enforce safety regulations.

Duties

• Ensure the safety of all program participants
• Follow the YUSA Swim Lesson curriculum
• Recognize and correct improper strokes or skills using positive feedback
• Communicate effectively with students and families in a patient, friendly manner
• Show you are a positive role model
• Must be 16 or older
• No certification necessary! We will pay to certify you within 6 months of hire!
• Must be comfortable and confident in the water
• Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and physical ability to act swiftly in emergency situations
• Must have ability to observe participant activities adequately, to enforce safety regulations and to apply appropriate policies and procedures

Child Protection Commitment

The YMCA requires all staff to share responsibility for preventing child abuse by upholding professional boundaries, completing mandatory Praesidium training, and reporting concerns. All candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background screening, including criminal and sex offender checks.
