Job summary

The City of Faribault Park and Recreation Department seeks an energetic swim instructor to provide high‑quality lessons for residents and visitors. The role emphasizes safety, education, and a positive learning environment for participants and parents.

Ideal candidates are at least 15 years old with basic swimming skills, strong communication, and customer service. WSI certification is preferred or training may be provided. Bilingual abilities (Somali/Spanish) are a plus.

Qualifications

• Must have basic swimming skills and willingness to learn advanced skills.
• Strong communication and customer service skills with all ages.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Criminal background check and drug test required.
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI); if not certified, eligible for company-paid WSI training.
• Preferred bilingual in Somali or Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Instruct participants in swimming and water safety skills.
• Provide a fun, educational swim lesson experience for participants and parents.
• Observe and enforce facility rules to prevent accidents or emergencies.
• Educate participants on facility rules and safety procedures.

Job description

The City of Faribault Park and Recreation seeks a positive, energetic professional to provide excellent swim lessons to the citizens of Faribault and community visitors. Successful performance helps ensure the provision of recreational opportunities and improved quality of life for its citizens. Instructors will ensure a safe, fun and educational environment for participants of the program.

Essential Responsibilities of the Position:

• Instruct participants for both swimming and safety skills in water.
• Provide a fun and educational swim lesson experience for both participants and parents.
• Observe and enforce all rules and regulations of the facility to prevent accidents or emergency situations.
• Educate class participants on the rules of the facility.
• Provide exemplary customer service ensuring the best swim lesson experience for the participants and parents.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills including communication skills with students, parents and facility staff.
• Attend all training sessions and any additional staff meetings.
• Complete all appropriate lesson paperwork during shift.

• Minimum 15 years old

Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Superintendent.
