The YMCA of Metropolitan Denver at Duncan YMCA in Arvada, CO is seeking an energetic Swim Coach/Instructor for part-time afternoons and evenings. Deliver engaging swim lessons, promote water safety, and support swimmers of all levels in a welcoming environment.

Qualifications

  • Age 21 or older required.
  • Swim Lesson Certification required.
  • Listen First within 6 months of hire or action plan in place.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Strong communication and listening skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain pool safety during lessons and ensure students acquire skills at their level.
  • Educate participants on pool rules and enforce them as required.
  • Remain current on CPR, First Aid and safety certifications.
  • Report accidents/incidents to supervisor using proper forms.
  • Be visible to members and support branch membership goals.
  • Keep daily attendance and level Skill Sheets up to date.
  • Be in the water 50-100% of class time.
  • Communicate class cancellations or reschedules to participants/parents.
  • Be knowledgeable of YMCA campaigns, policies, and safety procedures.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Denver is looking for an energetic Swim Coach/Instructor who can bring encouragement, enthusiasm, and a little splash of fun to every lesson.

You’ll help swimmers build confidence, improve their skills, master new strokes, and celebrate those awesome “I DID IT!” moments — from first-time swimmers to those ready to take their abilities to the next level.

POSITION SUMMARY

Instructor Aquatics, working as part of the Aquatics team, will deliver world-class customer service and relationship building skills to create a welcoming environment at the YMCA. The individual will be responsible for providing a safe swim instruction for participants. The incumbent will also exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Always maintain pool safety during swimming lessons; deliver lessons that provide students the best opportunity to acquire skills for their level
  • Educate participants on pool rules and enforce rules as required
  • Remain current on all CPR, First Aid and other safety certification training
  • Report all accidents and incidents to your supervisor immediately using proper forms
  • Be visible to members at all times-work towards branch membership retention goals
  • Keep daily attendance records and complete level skill sheets
  • Be in the water 50-100% of class time
  • Communicate with all participants/parents if class is being cancelled and/or rescheduled
  • Be knowledgeable and supportive of the YMCA annual support campaign, and general procedures and policies, including personnel guidelines, facility access procedures, membership policies, and emergency plans
