Position Overview

Are you a strategic banking leader who understands that exceptional loan operations require far more than processing paperwork and moving transactions from one desk to another? Do you have the expertise to transform complex lending operations into a streamlined, efficient, compliant, and performance-driven engine that supports institutional growth? An outstanding opportunity is available for a Senior Vice President of Loan Operations to provide executive leadership, operational oversight, and strategic direction across the full loan lifecycle.

This senior leadership position is designed for an experienced banking professional who can connect the dots between lending strategy, operational execution, regulatory compliance, risk management, technology, and customer experience. The ideal candidate brings a comprehensive understanding of commercial and consumer lending operations, loan documentation, booking and servicing, collateral administration, payment processing, loan maintenance, and portfolio integrity. Equally important, this individual understands how to build strong teams, strengthen internal controls, improve operational workflows, and establish procedures that allow a financial institution to grow confidently without compromising quality or sound banking practices.

As SVP of Loan Operations, you will work closely with executive leadership, lending officers, credit administration, compliance, risk management, finance, technology, and other key stakeholders to ensure that loan operations remain accurate, responsive, scalable, and aligned with the institution's strategic objectives. This is an opportunity to influence the direction of the lending platform, elevate operational performance, develop future leaders, and create sustainable processes that support both the institution and its customers.

Key Responsibilities

Executive Leadership and Strategic Direction: Develop, communicate, and execute a comprehensive loan operations strategy that aligns with organizational goals, lending objectives, risk appetite, and long-term business plans. Translate executive priorities into practical operational initiatives, measurable performance targets, and sustainable improvements.

Loan Lifecycle Management: Oversee the operational components of the lending process from approval and closing through documentation, booking, servicing, payment administration, collateral tracking, maintenance, payoff, and loan termination. Ensure each stage is completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Operational Excellence: Evaluate existing workflows, identify inefficiencies, eliminate unnecessary complexity, and implement standardized processes that improve productivity, reduce errors, strengthen accountability, and support consistent execution across the department.

Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management: Maintain strong operational controls designed to support compliance with applicable banking regulations, internal policies, contractual requirements, and audit standards. Partner with compliance, legal, credit, and risk management teams to address findings, mitigate exposure, and maintain a proactive approach to regulatory expectations.

Loan Documentation and Quality Control: Establish rigorous standards for loan documentation, approval verification, collateral perfection, lien tracking, covenant monitoring, system setup, and document retention. Ensure loan records are complete, accurate, properly authorized, and readily accessible for review.

Commercial Lending Operations: Provide oversight of commercial loan operations, including complex loan structures, commercial real estate, business lending, construction lending, lines of credit, renewals, modifications, participations, and other applicable lending products. Ensure operational practices reflect the requirements and risks associated with each product.

Loan Servicing and Portfolio Administration: Oversee servicing activities, payment processing, escrow administration where applicable, interest calculations, rate changes, maturities, extensions, payoffs, loan modifications, and other ongoing portfolio requirements. Maintain operational consistency while protecting the accuracy and integrity of loan data.

Technology and Systems Optimization: Collaborate with technology teams and system vendors to improve loan origination and servicing platforms, automate repetitive tasks, strengthen reporting capabilities, and enhance data quality. Evaluate emerging tools and process improvements that can reduce manual intervention and improve scalability.

Performance Measurement and Reporting: Establish and monitor key performance indicators related to processing turnaround times, documentation exceptions, error rates, service levels, audit findings, staffing productivity, and operational capacity. Present meaningful reports and recommendations to executive leadership to support informed decision-making.

Internal and External Audit Coordination: Lead preparation for internal audits, regulatory examinations, loan reviews, and independent assessments involving loan operations. Coordinate responses, establish corrective action plans, assign accountability, and ensure identified deficiencies are resolved within appropriate timeframes.

Policy and Procedure Development: Create, maintain, and periodically review loan operations policies, procedures, workflows, service standards, and control documentation. Ensure guidance remains current, clearly communicated, and appropriate for the institution's lending activities and growth strategy.

Departmental Leadership and Talent Development: Recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing operations professionals while building a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development. Establish clear expectations, provide meaningful coaching, and prepare team members for increased responsibility.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build productive relationships with lending, underwriting, credit administration, finance, compliance, legal, and technology teams. Serve as a trusted operational resource who can resolve complex issues, clarify responsibilities, and keep transactions progressing without sacrificing established controls.

Customer Experience and Service Delivery: Ensure loan operations provides dependable, timely, and professional support to internal partners and customers. Identify recurring service challenges, establish clear escalation procedures, and improve communication throughout the lending and servicing process.

Vendor and Third-Party Oversight: Manage relationships with applicable technology providers, document custodians, servicing partners, and other operational vendors. Monitor service quality, contractual commitments, information security considerations, and vendor performance.

Business Continuity and Operational Resilience: Maintain appropriate contingency plans, disaster recovery procedures, access controls, and business continuity practices to support critical loan operations during system disruptions, staffing challenges, or other unexpected events.

Change Management and Growth Support: Lead operational integration, process standardization, system enhancements, and organizational changes associated with new lending products, portfolio expansion, acquisitions, or other strategic initiatives, as applicable.

Executive Partnership: Serve as a senior advisor to executive management on loan operations strategy, operational risk, resource allocation, technology investments, process modernization, and opportunities to strengthen the institution's overall lending capabilities.

Experience managing departmental budgets, staffing plans, resource allocation, operational capacity, and strategic initiatives.

Familiarity with loan origination systems, loan servicing platforms, core banking systems, document management tools, and operational reporting applications.

Demonstrated success leading process improvement, automation, system implementation, or other operational transformation initiatives.

Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the judgment to evaluate complex issues, assess potential risk, and make sound decisions under competing priorities.

Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to explain technical operational matters and risk considerations to executive leadership, lending teams, auditors, and other stakeholders.

Proven ability to develop strong teams, coach emerging leaders, establish accountability, and create a collaborative environment focused on consistent performance.

A bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, accounting, or a related discipline is preferred. An equivalent combination of relevant experience, leadership achievement, and professional education may be considered.

Relevant banking, lending, risk management, or operations certifications are advantageous.

Leadership Profile

The successful candidate will bring a balanced combination of strategic vision, operational discipline, sound judgment, and relationship-building ability. This individual should be comfortable moving between high-level executive discussions and detailed operational reviews, understanding both the broader institutional implications and the practical realities of daily loan processing and servicing.

We are seeking a leader who can anticipate operational challenges before they become larger problems, recognize opportunities to improve existing processes, and make thoughtful decisions that balance efficiency with risk mitigation. The ideal professional understands that strong loan operations are built on accurate data, consistent documentation, effective controls, clear communication, capable employees, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Integrity, discretion, adaptability, and a collaborative leadership style are essential. The ability to influence across departments, manage competing priorities, communicate expectations clearly, and guide teams through change will be critical to success.

The Opportunity

Compensation starts at $200,000+, depending on experience and qualifications. The overall compensation package and benefits will be discussed with qualified candidates.
