Job summary

Axos Bank in San Diego, CA, is seeking an SVP, Head of Engineering to lead a 400+ engineer organization across Consumer, Securities & Wealth, AUC, and Philippines-based teams. This role blends hands-on technical leadership with strategic direction to deliver high-impact software across customer-facing and back-office platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or higher.
• 10+ years of engineering leadership experience overseeing 300+ people.
• Hands-on technical background with API-first design, microservices, Redis, and CI/CD.
• Experience in a regulated banking environment.
• Preferred: OutSystems experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop multi-year engineering and technology strategy for four groups, translating business priorities into roadmaps.
• Own architecture and engineering standards across four groups, replacing legacy debt with modern patterns.
• Set technology and tooling direction for scalable, low-latency, 24x7 uptime platforms.
• Make build-versus-buy decisions and drive platform investments for long-term health.
• Lead AI-driven software delivery (AIDLC) and ensure tooling aligns with enterprise standards.
• Maintain delivery capacity outlook for roadmap feasibility and planning.
• Collaborate with Risk, Compliance, and CISO to meet regulatory standards.
