Job summary

Bloom Energy in San Jose, CA is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer, Sustaining Engineering, to advance reliability and cost effectiveness across product lifecycles. You will lead design improvements, perform root cause analysis, support DFMA/ DFA, manage ECOs, and collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Reliability, Supply Chain and Product Development.

This on-site role requires hands-on mechanical experience, SolidWorks proficiency, GD&T, and a proactive, multi-project mindset to deliver

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years sustaining engineering or related.
• Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
• Familiarity with 8D methodology and structured problem solving.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks).
• Experience creating and modifying engineering drawings with GD&T.
• Experience supporting ECOs, BOM structures and product documentation.
• Strong mechanical design fundamentals and engineering judgment.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support investigation of field, manufacturing, supplier, and test issues using structured problem solving.
• Own root cause analysis, corrective actions, validation testing, and implementation.
• Develop and implement mechanical design improvements for quality, reliability, and manufacturability.
• Drive cost reduction through design optimization and process improvements.
• Identify and qualify second-source suppliers to improve supply chain resilience.
• Support DFM and DFA initiatives to improve quality and efficiency.
• Create and modify 3D CAD models, drawings, and BOM updates.
• Apply GD&T to component and assembly drawings.
• Coordinate testing of design changes and supplier components.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Reliability, Supply Chain, Service and Product Development.
