Job summary

IPG Photonics in Marlborough, MA, seeks a Sustaining Product Engineer for the LightWELD handheld laser welding family. You will sustain released products, ensure manufacturing process stability, drive root-cause and corrective actions, and manage ECOs to keep production-ready systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical/related field required.
• 2–4 years sustaining/manufacturing/product engineering experience with hands-on assembly, testing, and production support.
• Experience with RCCA, CAPA, PFMEA, 8D or similar structured problem-solving.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD and 2D drafting, GD&T per ASME Y14.5, and configuration control.

Responsibilities

• Support LightWELD sustaining engineering activities for released products, daily manufacturing needs, and cost improvements.
• Lead or support failure analysis and root-cause corrective actions for manufacturing, assembly, test, supplier, and field issues.
• Own sustaining engineering changes, ECOs, drawings, BOM updates, and documentation releases for stable production.
• Collaborate with production, quality, service, supply chain, optomechanical, electronics, and software teams to improve assembly methods, yield, and throughput.
• Create and maintain SolidWorks models, drawings, fixtures, and engineering records with SolidWorks PDM; ensure GD&T compliance.
• Support process improvements such as DFM/DFA updates, tolerance analysis, supplier evaluations, and reliability improvements.
