Job summary

Wabtec in Salem, VA is seeking a Design Engineer to collaborate with our Design Engineering team, owning product lines and driving improvements in performance, cost, and manufacturability. You will manage engineering releases, sustain existing products, and support new development from concept through implementation.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering (ABET), 3+ years in engineering/manufacturing, solid modeling with SolidWorks and PDM/Windchill, GD&T knowledge, lean

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
• 3+ years’ experience in engineering and manufacturing environment.
• 3+ years’ experience in solid modeling (SolidWorks) and PDM/Windchill.
• Strong understanding of GD&T and tolerancing analysis, materials and manufacturing processes, DFM/DFA.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of product lines, driving improvements in performance, cost, and manufacturability.
• Coordinate Engineering Drawing Release Notices and BOM releases.
• Data Entry to support company requirements in business systems.
• Support new product development, sustaining efforts, and project management; coordinate prototypes and quotes, manage timelines.
• Communicate design intent, risks, and progress to stakeholders.
• Transform concepts into robust engineering solutions using SolidWorks and 2D drafting.
• Ensure designs meet customer, regulatory, and performance requirements.
• Design and execute engineering validation tests; analyze data and implement improvements.
