Job summary

Wabtec in Greenville, SC seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to drive new product development from concept to production. You'll design equipment and systems, perform FEA/thermodynamics analyses, and support industrialization and cost control. Prototyping, testing and collaboration with manufacturing and quality teams are essential.

The role requires a BS in mechanical engineering, 3+ years’ design experience, SolidWorks proficiency, and strong communication. Travel may be needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field required.
• Three years mechanical design experience preferred.
• Proven track record of new product designs manufactured reliably and cost-effectively.
• Understanding of FEA and FMEA.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes as they relate to engineering design.
• Experience with sheet metal and cast components.
• Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks a plus).
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Some travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Design and development of new products, equipment and systems; proto-typing and testing.
• Product design using 3D solid modeling and 2D drafting tools (SolidWorks).
• Perform mechanical/structural analysis and GD&T.
• Create bills of materials and drawings for prototypes; estimate manufacturing costs.
• Support manufacturing in the industrialization of new products and equipment.
• Provide engineering support to manufacturing, quality, and marketing staff.
• Meet project target dates within budget.
