Job summary

McKinstry in Austin, TX is offering a Summer 2027 Construction Project Engineer Intern role on our construction team. You will gain hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to project coordination, RFP support, and on-site activities.

We're looking for students pursuing Construction Management or Mechanical Engineering, with strong communication, detail orientation, and ability to read plans. The role pays $24/hour and is part-time during the summer with potential after-summer flexibility.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or has a degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Eng, or related field; Sophomore or higher.
• Summer 2027 availability (May/June start; Aug/Sept end); part-time after Summer preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; detail-oriented and well organized.
• Self-motivated, able to multi-task and work independently; able to read construction plans and specs.
• MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio); SharePoint and MS Project preferred.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with clients and project resources and document discussions, outcomes and decisions.
• Coordinate equipment procurement with purchasing and vendors.
• Support the RFP process.
• Work with internal and external teams while on jobsite.
• Attend team management meetings.
• Coordinate with McKinstry subcontractors, including routing of correspondence.
• Communicate with Project Manager and project team for daily duties.
• Maintain drawings, daily correspondence with trades, schedules, RFIs and submittal logs.
• Assist in the client and subcontractor change order process.
• Create Requests for Information (RFI) and distribute submittals.
• Publish Operations and Maintenance Manuals for the client.
• Other duties as assigned.
