Job summary

The American Chemical Society (ACS) seeks a Sustainability Manager to drive its internal sustainability strategy and operations from Washington, DC. This role combines operational execution (80%) with strategic advisory (20%), coordinating cross‑department initiatives and carbon accounting across Scope 1‑3 inventories.

Responsibilities include ESG reporting, KPI dashboards, and stakeholder engagement to advance targets and standards, with a flexible hybrid work schedule and travel about 1–2

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a science or related field and 8+ years of professional experience, including 3+ years in sustainability management.
• Experience with carbon accounting software and Scope 1-3 inventories.
• Familiarity with lifecycle assessment (LCA) methodologies.
• Experience with ESG reporting frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD).
• Strong project management and cross-functional coordination skills.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI).
• Experience with enterprise systems (e.g., SAP) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate execution of the internal sustainability plan across departments.
• Oversee carbon accounting and sustainability data systems; track progress against the roadmap.
• Lead sustainability reporting aligned with frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD).
• Develop dashboards and KPIs for performance measurement and board reporting.
• Establish internal sustainability standards and engage suppliers and stakeholders.
