Job summary

City of Sunnyvale is seeking an intern for the Sustainability Analyst role in the Environmental Services Department. The position focuses on supporting the City’s first municipal greenhouse gas inventory by coordinating data collection, organizing emissions data, and using ICLEI ClearPath 2.0 to develop the GHG inventory.

The internship emphasizes climate action, CAP implementation, and data analysis, with a flexible schedule ranging from 16 to 25 hours per week and up to 900 hours per fiscal

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Climate Science, Urban Planning, Geography, Public Policy, Data Analytics, or related field.
• Experience with data analysis, research, or sustainability projects through coursework, internships, or employment.
• Proficient computer skills with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneDrive.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with City departments to collect data for the city’s first municipal greenhouse gas inventory.
• Organize, verify, and maintain data from City operations and facilities.
• Utilize ICLEI ClearPath 2.0 to prepare the GHG inventory.
• Import and organize the 2024 community-wide inventory into ClearPath 2.0.
• Perform QA/QC on datasets and document methods and sources.
• Support Climate Action Playbook implementation and other sustainability projects.
