Job summary

The City of Sunnyvale is offering an Intern – Sustainability Analyst in the Regulatory Programs Division. This casual internship supports climate action, greenhouse gas accounting, and sustainability planning, focusing on the City’s municipal inventory and using ICLEI ClearPath 2.0.

The role involves data gathering from departments, data analysis, and developing outreach materials. Flexible hours range from 16 to 25 per week, with up to 900 hours per fiscal year.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Climate Science, Urban Planning, Geography, Public Policy, Data Analytics, or a closely related field.
• Experience with data analysis, research, or sustainability projects through coursework, internships, or employment.
• Proficient computer skills with basic knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneDrive.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with City departments and facility staff to collect data for the City’s first municipal GHG inventory.
• Respond to phone and written information requests.
• Utilize ICLEI ClearPath 2.0 to prepare the municipal GHG inventory.
• Import and organize the 2024 community-wide GHG inventory into ClearPath 2.0.
• Perform QA/QC on inventory datasets and document sources.
