Job summary

City of Cleveland seeks a Public Information Officer for the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability to lead communications for climate action and sustainability initiatives. You will craft messaging for diverse audiences, manage digital programs, and collaborate with city departments and external partners.

The role requires strong leadership, excellent writing, and experience in public-facing communications, with a focus on transparency and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or related field.
• Experience in public-facing communications and leadership in a governmental or large organization preferred.
• Knowledge of sustainability and climate justice principles is a plus.
• Ability to manage projects to time and budget.

Responsibilities

• Develop and oversee a comprehensive strategic communications plan aligned with CAP/MAP and Mayor priorities.
• Manage multiple communications projects with priorities, timelines and stakeholder reviews.
• Support sustainability initiatives across City operations and external partners.
• Provide communications guidance to leadership and program staff for audiences and messaging.
• Oversee digital and social media, content development, and paid promotions.
• Maintain and update Mayor’s Office of Sustainability website pages.
