Job summary

City of Cleveland seeks a Public Information Officer for the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability to lead strategic communications for climate action. You will supervise public information, media relations, and digital content across city initiatives and events, engaging regional and national audiences.

The role requires strong writing, project management, and branding skills, plus experience with social media and stakeholder communications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Business or Public Administration, Social Sciences, or closely related field preferred.
• Two years of any equivalent combination of education, training and experience in program administration or communications preferred.
• Experience in sustainability and climate justice principles is a plus.
• Ability to self-manage to complete projects on time and within budget.
• Must be able to lift and carry lightweight materials as required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategic communications plan for sustainability and climate action.
• Manage multiple communications projects with priorities, timelines, and approvals.
• Identify communications needs for sustainability projects across City operations.
• Coordinate external partner communications to advance CAP and MAP goals.
• Provide strategic communications guidance to leadership and staff.
• Oversee digital and social media communications and content development.
• Maintain MOS website pages and ensure consistent branding and messaging.
• Amplify Cleveland’s sustainability work through regional and national platforms.
