The New York City Department of Education seeks a Suspension Hearing Officer, OSPP, to preside at and oversee student suspension hearings for students with disabilities or in general education programs. Reporting to the Supervising Attorney, the officer will conduct hearings, advise families, and issue findings of fact and decisions in a timely manner.

Position Summary: Reporting to the Supervising Attorney, the Suspension Hearing Officer will preside at and oversee student suspensions hearings for students with disabilities or in general education programs. Performs related work.

Direct Reports: N/A
Key Relationships: Communicates with private and public legal and advocacy personnel, including individual attorneys/advocates representing suspended students. Communicates with parents/guardians regarding suspension related issues.
Note: In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements:
To be assigned to AL II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years
of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.
Note: Selected candidates must remain members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of their employment.

(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
