Position Summary: Under the direction of the Executive Deputy Counsel and/or Deputy Counsel for the Commercial and Contracts Unit, with broad latitude for independent action, initiative and judgment, the Managing Team Attorney for Commercial & Contracts Unit is responsible for the daily management and oversight of New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) commercial law matters, including contracts, purchasing agreements, leases, inter‑agency agreements, and related litigation. The position also supervises attorneys and staff, provides strategic legal counsel to NYCPS leadership, and ensures compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and policies. Performs related work.
Reports to: Executive Deputy Counsel and/or Deputy Counsel for Commercial & Contracts Unit
Direct Reports: Agency Attorneys
Key Relationships: Division of Early Childhood Education (DECE), Office of Pupil Transportation (OPT); Division of Operations; Division of Contracts and Purchasing (DCP); NYC Law Department; OGC Executive Leadership and Attorneys; Central Offices and External Vendors.
Minimum
Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.

(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
