Job summary

CocuSocial in the Los Angeles area is seeking a Sushi Chef Instructor to lead hands-on sushi classes for guests. You’ll demonstrate techniques, guide participants, and ensure a fun, social, and safe learning experience.

Classes run about 2 hours with 8–26 attendees; you’ll teach ingredients, tools, and methods in an approachable way while maintaining schedule and food-safety standards. This is a part-time, contract, in-person role.

Qualifications

• Professional experience preparing sushi or Japanese cuisine.
• Strong knife skills and familiarity with sushi preparation techniques.
• Comfortable working with raw fish and other sushi ingredients.
• Friendly, outgoing personality and genuine interest in working with people.
• Ability to lead a group independently and explain cooking techniques to beginners.
• Food-handler certification or willingness to obtain one.
• Commit to teaching at least 2-4 classes per month.

Responsibilities

• Lead interactive sushi-making classes for groups of 8–26 guests.
• Demonstrate sushi preparation, rolling, cutting, and presentation.
• Teach guests about ingredients, tools, and techniques in an approachable way.
• Guide participants through hands-on preparation and provide support.
• Create a welcoming, social environment for beginners and experienced home cooks alike.
• Keep the class engaging, organized, and on schedule.
• Follow CocuSocial recipes, formats, and food-safety standards.
• Assist with basic setup and cleanup before and after classes.
• Communicate class logistics and guest feedback with the CocuSocial team.
