Job summary

CocuSocial in Los Angeles is seeking a Sushi Chef Instructor to lead interactive sushi classes at partner venues. You’ll guide guests through hands-on prep, demonstrate techniques, and create a friendly, social learning space for beginners and casual food lovers.

Classes run about 2 hours for 8–26 guests. This is a part-time, contract role with in-person work across the LA area, supported by CocuSocial in marketing, logistics, and supplies.

Qualifications

• Professional experience preparing sushi or Japanese cuisine.
• Strong knife skills and familiarity with sushi preparation techniques.
• Comfortable handling raw fish and other sushi ingredients.
• Friendly, outgoing personality with people skills.
• Ability to teach beginners and explain techniques clearly.
• Reliable, organized, and able to lead a class.
• Food-handler certification or willingness to obtain one.
• Availability to teach 2–4 classes per month.

Responsibilities

• Lead sushi-making classes for groups of 8–26 guests.
• Demonstrate sushi preparation, rolling, cutting, and presentation.
• Teach ingredients, tools, and techniques in an approachable way.
• Guide hands-on preparation and support during class.
• Create a welcoming social environment for all skill levels.
• Keep the class engaging and on schedule.
• Follow CocuSocial recipes, formats, and food-safety standards.
• Assist with setup and cleanup before and after classes.
