Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking a Survey Tech II to support field surveying data collection and operation of survey instruments as part of the field crew in Charleston, SC. The role involves performing boundary, topography, and route surveys and maintaining survey equipment to ensure accurate measurements.

Work is predominantly in the field with occasional office tasks; travel up to 15% may be required.

Qualifications

• Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening.
• Valid Driver’s License Required.
• Able to pass Background Check.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate surveying equipment (total station, GPS, data collector) to measure distances and elevations.
• Conduct boundary, topography, and right-of-way surveys.
• Maintain and document field equipment and notes.
• Record accurate field notes and report findings.

Position Summary

JMT is seeking a Survey Tech II to be responsible for collection of field surveying data, and operation of specific survey instruments for the field crew.

Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

• Sets up, adjusts, and operates surveying equipment including electronic total station, data collector, and GPS equipment, in order to measure distances, elevations and angles
• Perform boundary, topography, ATLA, right of way, and route, control, and construction surveys
• Responsible for the operation and maintenance of survey equipment, including electronic data collectors, levels, electronic total station, GPS, and survey vehicles
• Record accurate and clear field notes
• Document assignments
• Collect data using survey equipmentPerform calculations

• Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills

• Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening

Required Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 2+ years of relevant experience
• Skills in mathematics and coordinate geometry
• Familiarity with total stations, data collectors, and GPS

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field 95% of the time. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

Work is performed within a general office environment 5% of the time. Office work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Travel required when needed - anticipated 15% (or less) of the time.
