Job summary

Kiewit is seeking a Survey Assistant to support the surveying crew on construction sites. You will help establish elevations and grades, mark elevations, carry survey stakes, and operate survey instruments under supervision.

You’ll learn to use electronic measuring tools and maintain accuracy across activities, with exposure to varying outdoor conditions and overtime as required. The role emphasizes safe tool handling, following instructions, and field experience in the craft.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with related field experience.
• Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
• Field experience in surveying or craft discipline.
• Knowledge of safe use of hand and power tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform manual labor related to surveying needs, e.g., cutting brush, placing lines and markers.
• Assist in establishing elevations/grades as required.
• Install or mark elevations as directed by the Surveying Journeyman.
• Measure distances with survey chains and maintain accuracy.
• Operate and maintain survey tools and instruments.
• Learn to set up electronic measuring and sighting equipment as needed.
