THE POSITION

As a Survey Technician Supervisor with the Department of Environmental Protection, you will support field operations that guide important environmental decisions. This position allows you to apply surveying knowledge while helping ensure safe and effective design planning. You will contribute to key efforts that address mining impacts and protect Pennsylvania's land and resources. This role offers a meaningful way to grow your skills and make a difference.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports surveying projects related to mining impacts, including mine fires, subsidence, and reclamation activities. The role focuses on gathering accurate field data, preparing sketches, and supporting engineering design work. As a Survey Technician, you will perform the following duties:

  • Field Measurements: Supervise and record exact measurements needed for surveying and design projects
  • Topography Sketches: Prepare detailed drawings that show the topography of surveyed areas
  • Engineering Data: Secure information required to support complete design plans and project development
  • Site Marking: Oversee the marking and staking of construction locations based on project requirements
  • Data Reduction: Reduce field notes and complete trigonometric and algebraic calculations
  • Project Support: Review workload, assist consultant coordination, research land ownership, and participate in training and documentation tasks

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Ebensburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,008 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
  • One year of experience as a Survey Technician; or
  • Four years of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments; or
  • Two years of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments, and an associate's degree in surveying, drafting, design, civil or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.
Condition of Employment
  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
