Job description

Position Overview

We are currently seeking a full‑time Survey Field Technician in our Kansas City office. The survey department supports engineers on civil, development, municipal, and environmental projects. This position is predominantly field based with occasional in‑office work and opportunities for advancement.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Follow instructions on specific assignments and complex workflows.
• Perform a variety of in‑office and field tasks for land surveying projects as directed.
• Conduct topographic, boundary, and construction surveys.
• Download, process, and review field data.
• Prepare field notes and maintain accurate records.
• Communicate with contractors and use the Iowa One‑Call System.
• Assist with manhole and utility inspections.

Requirements

• Associate degree preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of survey calculations, techniques, and procedures.
• Valid driver’s license.
• 3+ years of experience in land surveying preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Self‑motivated and able to follow directions.

Professional Development

• Training provided by veteran field staff.
• Tutelage from Missouri PLS for licensure development.
• Civil3D training provided by in‑house staff.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Moderate physical work required, lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally. Use of hand tools such as shovels, axes, hammers, picks, and machetes. Work outdoors year‑round in all weather conditions.
