Kleinfelder, a Forbes' Top Employer for Engineers in North America, seeks a full-time Survey Field Technician in our Kansas City office. The role is field-heavy, supporting the PLS and Crew Chief with growth opportunities in a collaborative environment.

The position requires surveying experience, knowledge of survey methods, and a valid driver’s license. Associate degree preferred, plus opportunities for Missouri licensure development.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of survey calculations, techniques, and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Self-motivated and able to follow directions.
• Valid driver’s license.
• 3+ years of experience in land surveying is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follow instructions on assignments, objectives and workflows.
• Perform in-office and field tasks for land surveying projects.
• Conduct topographic, boundary, and construction surveys as directed.
• Review, download, and process field data.
• Prepare field notes and maintain records.
• Communicate with contractors and the Iowa One Call System.
• Inspect manholes and utilities.

Position Overview

We are currently seeking a full‑time Survey Field Technician in our Kansas City office. Our survey department is vital to assisting engineers on a wide array of civil, development, municipal and environmental projects. This position is predominantly a field position with opportunities for in‑office work and development to a qualified candidate. This position is a support position to our existing PLS and Crew Chief with opportunities for advancement.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

• Follow instructions on specific assignments, objectives and complex workflows
• Perform a variety of in‑office and field tasks associated with land surveying projects as directed by PLS or OM
• Performs topographic, boundary, and construction surveys as directed by PLS or OM
• Review, download, and process field data
• Prepare field notes and maintain records
• Perform other like duties as assigned by PLS or OM
• Communicate with Contractors and the Iowa One Call System
• Manhole and Utility inspections

Requirements

• Associate degree preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of survey calculations, techniques, and procedures
• Valid driver’s license
• 3+ years of experience in land surveying is preferred

Professional Development

• Training to be provided by veteran field staff for best surveying practices, expectations, and equipment usage
• Tutelage to be provided from Missouri PLS to aid in the development of candidate and Missouri licensure process if desired
• Civil3D training to be provided to candidate by in‑house staff

Physical Demands And Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires the ability to perform moderate physical work and to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally. The ability to use a shovel, axe, hammer, pick, machete and other hand tools used to complete survey projects. The field crew will work year around outside in all kinds of weather.
