Job summary

Knife River - South is seeking a lead surveyor to oversee staff, assign and monitor work, and direct surveying and layout operations on construction sites in Bryan, TX. The typical schedule is Monday–Friday 6:00 AM–6:00 PM with Saturday as needed; duties include data collection, stakeout, and setting reference points.

The role requires prior experience in construction surveying, knowledge of stakeout procedures, and proficiency with total station and GPS data collection.

Qualifications

• Prior experience on a construction surveying party.
• Thorough knowledge of residential and commercial stakeout procedures.
• Ability to perform field topographic, road frontage, and as-built surveys.

Responsibilities

• Determine distances, areas, and angles of projects.
• Establish horizontal/vertical control reference points.
• Set stakes and mark lines, grades, and points.
• Determine profiles for cuts, fills, and earthwork volumes.
• Layout structures, culverts, and bridge lines.
• Determine vertical/horizontal placement of utilities and roads.
• Record and store all data.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

ROLE OVERVIEW

This position is responsible to serve as a lead to staff to include assigning & monitoring work and providing direction in performing various construction surveys and layout operations.

Typical schedule is Monday - Friday 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM with Saturday as needed. The schedule may vary depending on weather and customer demand.

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Determine distances, areas, and angles of projects.
2. Establish reference points for both horizontal and vertical control.
3. Set stakes or otherwise marking lines, grades, and principal points.
4. Determine profiles of the ground along given lines (centerlines and/or cross section lines) to provide data for cuts, fills, and earthwork volumes.
5. Layout structures, culverts, and bridge lines.
6. Determine the vertical and horizontal placement of utilities, State Highways, City Streets, and Bridges.
7. Record and store all data related to above.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

1. Prior experience working on a construction surveying party.
2. Thorough knowledge of residential and commercial construction stakeout procedures and practices.
3. Ability to perform all aspects of data collection in field topographic surveys, road frontage cross-section surveys, and as-built surveys.
4. Through knowledge of total station, GPS and data collection, with the ability to adapt to new equipment and technologies.
5. Ability to work outside in all seasons.
6. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required.
