Job summary

Knife River Corporation seeks a lead surveying professional to supervise staff and provide direction in construction surveys and layout operations.

Typical schedule is Monday - Friday 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM with Saturday as needed. Responsibilities include setting stakes, establishing control points, and calculating earthwork data for projects.

Experience with total station, GPS data collection, and valid driver’s license required; outdoor work in all seasons is expected.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience on a construction surveying party.
  • Thorough knowledge of residential and commercial stakeout procedures.
  • Ability to perform field topographic surveys and cross-section surveys.
  • Proficiency with total station and GPS data collection; adapt to new equipment.
  • Ability to work outside in all seasons.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • Establish reference points for horizontal and vertical control.
  • Set stakes or mark lines, grades, and principal points.
  • Determine profiles for data on cuts, fills, and earthwork volumes.
  • Layout structures, culverts, and bridge lines.
  • Determine vertical/horizontal placement of utilities, roads, bridges.
  • Record and store all data related to above.

Role Overview

This position is responsible to serve as a lead to staff to include assigning and monitoring work and providing direction in performing various construction surveys and layout operations.

Typical schedule is Monday - Friday 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM with Saturday as needed. The schedule may vary depending on weather and customer demand.

Duties and/or Responsibilities
  • Determine distances, areas, and angles of projects.
  • Establish reference points for both horizontal and vertical control.
  • Set stakes or otherwise marking lines, grades, and principal points.
  • Determine profiles of the ground along given lines (centerlines and/or cross section lines) to provide data for cuts, fills, and earthwork volumes.
  • Layout structures, culverts, and bridge lines.
  • Determine the vertical and horizontal placement of utilities, State Highways, City Streets, and Bridges.
  • Record and store all data related to above.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Prior experience working on a construction surveying party.
  • Thorough knowledge of residential and commercial construction stakeout procedures and practices.
  • Ability to perform all aspects of data collection in field topographic surveys, road frontage cross-section surveys, and as-built surveys.
  • Through knowledge of total station, GPS and data collection, with the ability to adapt to new equipment and technologies.
  • Ability to work outside in all seasons.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
