Job DescriptionSurvey Party Chief Job Description – I-95 Widening (Pooler, GA)

Job Summary

The Survey Party Chief will lead field survey teams for the I-95 MM 0-8 Project. This role supports civil engineering and construction initiatives, including roadway, bridge, utility, and site development work. The ideal candidate will have a strong land surveying background, leadership skills, and technical knowledge to ensure precision and compliance in all field operations.

Responsibilities
  1. Lead survey field crews, demonstrating management and organizational skills.
  2. Perform topographic, boundary, construction layout, and as-built surveys using GPS, robotic total stations, and drones.
  3. Interpret project plans, drawings, and specifications to direct survey activities.
  4. Ensure survey work meets project timelines, quality standards, and safety protocols.
  5. Maintain accurate field notes, sketches, and reports.
  6. Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and clients for project alignment.
  7. Train and mentor junior survey staff.
  8. Oversee survey equipment maintenance and calibration.
  9. Provide progress updates and report issues to the Survey Manager.
  10. Travel as needed, including out-of-town and night work.
Qualifications
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Pre-employment screening; ICE is a drug-free workplace.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • At least 4 years of land surveying experience, with 2+ years in a supervisory role as a Survey or Party Chief.
  • Experience with DOT or transportation infrastructure projects, especially highway widening.
  • Experience with SCDOT or GDOT projects is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Georgia and South Carolina survey standards and procedures.
  • Understanding of boundary, topographic, and construction surveys.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal survey regulations.
  • Ability to interpret engineering plans and blueprints.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This role involves moderate physical activity, including walking, standing, bending, and climbing. Lifting objects up to 80 pounds may be required. Employees must navigate construction sites safely, inspect materials and structures, and distinguish details, colors, sounds, and pitches. Effective communication skills are essential. The role requires adaptability to environmental conditions, including hot, cold, noisy settings, and night or weekend work, often in active traffic areas.
