Job summary

Phillips Infrastructure in Arcadia, FL is seeking a Survey Manager to lead surveying operations, oversee field crews, and ensure precise data for engineering and construction projects. Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of GPS/GNSS, robotic total stations, grade verification, as-builts, layout, and topographic surveys.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, Engineers, and licensed Professional Surveyors.
• Develop and maintain project-specific survey standards and workflows.
• Understand coordinate systems, datums, and State Plane Coordinates.
• Experience with GPS design surface models; Trimble Business Center and AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.
• Interpret drone survey data for quantity tracking and monthly reports.
• Florida licensed Professional Surveyor and Mapper preferred, not required.

Summary

The Survey Manager oversees and coordinates surveying activities to provide precise data on land features, boundaries, and topography for various applications such as engineering, construction, and mapmaking. This role involves significant managerial tasks, precise measurement, and data analysis to support project objectives.

Essential Knowledge and Skill Requirement

• Plan, direct, and coordinate survey work, integrating activities with other staff, certifying survey results, and writing legal land descriptions.
• Compute geodetic measurements and interpret survey data to determine positions, shapes, and elevations of geomorphic and topographic features.
• Coordinate findings with engineering and architectural personnel, clients, and other stakeholders.
• Strong working knowledge of construction surveying, site control, GPS/GNSS, robotic total stations, grade verification, as-builts, layout, topographic surveys, and machine control workflows.
• Ability to coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, Engineers, Subcontractors’ Owners, and licensed Professional Surveyors when signed/sealed survey products are required.
• Ability to develop and maintain project specific survey standards, including point numbering/ coding, file organization, model revisions, data collection procedures, control documentation, and field- to- office workflows.
• Strong understanding of coordinate systems, datums, benchmarks, State Plane Coordinates, and project- specific/ localized coordinate systems.
• Experience building GPS system design surface models. Experience with Trimble Business Center and AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.
• Interpretation of drone survey data for quantity tracking, as-built program, and monthly billing reports.
• Florida licensed Professional Surveyor and Mapper preferred, not required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• May supervise up to 5 workers, including surveyors, technicians, and support staff.

Basic Functional Job Requirements

• Ability to perform a variety of duties, adapting to changes with accuracy.
• Frequently lift/carry objects up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds unassisted.
• Ability to review engineering plans and specifications, identify conflicts, and translate design information into accurate field models and survey deliverables.
• Strong report writing and effective communication skills.

Physical Work Environment

• Work may involve dusty or dirty conditions.
• Exposure to hazardous materials, with appropriate personal protective equipment provided.
• Occasional night shifts and exposure to extreme temperatures.

Physical Demands

• Demonstrated ability to meet the physical demands of the role as part of qualification requirements.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in surveying preferred.
• At least two years of related supervisory experience.
• 5+ years of progressive surveying experience, preferably in heavy civil, infrastructure, earthwork, utilities, or roadway construction.
• CPR, First Aid, and Confined Space Entry certifications are advantageous.
