Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Assist Survey Party Chief with field work: topographic, boundary, and construction staking surveys.
  • Follow supervisor instructions and provide support for team activities.
  • Maintain equipment, supplies, and vehicles daily.

SUMMARY

Performs a variety ofland surveying tasks under the direction of a Survey Party Chief, or the ChiefSurveyor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists Survey Party Chief withthe performance of field work, including but not limited to topographic,boundary, and construction staking surveys.
  • Receives instructions andgeneral direction from supervisor prior to performing team activities.
  • Maintains equipment, supplies,and vehicles on a daily basis.
  • Performs various calculationsusing coordinate geometry, trigonometry, and algebra in order to performsurveying for projects.
  • Interprets maps and plats forthe location of right of way and easements.
  • Keeps accurate notes, records,maps, and sketches to describe and certify work performed.
  • Performs tasks to maintain theCity Vertical and Horizontal Control Systems.
  • Performs other duties andassigned.
  • May research previous surveyevidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain dataneeded for surveys.
  • Operates City Vehicles onpublic roads and on constructions sites

Thisposition has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • General knowledge of landsurveying principles.
  • Knowledge and ability to set upand operate Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers, hardware andsoftware. Knowledge of the basics of how GPS works, and the limitations ofGPS. (Preferred)
  • Knowledge and ability to set upand operate Total Stations. (Preferred)
  • Ability to perform data entryand word processing and to operate survey software packages.
  • Ability to develop Excelspreadsheets.
  • Ability to perform basicequipment maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to use Auto Cad and/orsurveying software. (Preferred)
EDUCATIONand EXPERIENCE

Pursuingan undergraduate or graduate degree in Surveying/Geomatics, Civil Engineering,Construction Management, GIS or aclosely-related field. Experience and/or Course Work in Land Surveyingpreferred.

LANGUAGESKILLS

Ability to read andinterpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenanceinstructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routinereports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively beforegroups of customers or employees of the organization.

REASONINGABILITY

Ability to defineproblems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability tointerpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical ordiagram form.

ValidDriver's License.
