ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: $40,598.00 - 60,897.00 (Salaries are paid biweekly)

ANNUAL ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: $45,000.00 - 49,000.00 (Salaries are paid biweekly)

Job Summary

The City of Fort Collins is looking for Flaggers to ensure safe work zones. Flaggers work outdoors to direct the traveling public around construction worksites and protect the work crew. During the winter season, Flaggers perform snow and ice removal duties. This is a full-time, benefited position with an anticipated base salary range of $45,000.00 - $49,000.00 ($21.63 -$23.56/hour).

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Perform safe and orderly traffic control and flagging duties within the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standards and the City of Fort Collins handbook.
  • Perform unskilled and skilled manual labor, and semi-skilled work in the operation of tools, automotive, and specialized equipment involved in planning and implementing traffic control around street construction, maintenance and repair sites.
  • Protect yourself and the public from road construction and maintenance dangers.
  • Protect the work crew from dangers presented by the traveling public.
  • Ensure that traffic proceeds smoothly and in a timely fashion through the work zone.
  • Set-up and break-down traffic control devices in work zones.
  • Answer citizen questions and/or direct them to the right person.
  • Respond to emergencies as directed.
  • Assist in snow and ice removal operations, including operating small equipment.
  • Controls and directs the movement of the traveling public through construction worksites.
  • Communicate effectively with construction crews and supervisors to coordinate traffic

Required Qualifications

Minimum: High School Diploma or GED

Experience Requirements

Conditions of Employment:

  • Ability to work on-call and after hours.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Any industry-specific experience is highly desired
  • 1+ year related experience and working around heavy equipment is preferred.
Certifications/Licenses/Specialized Training
  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. Must have legal authorization to work in the United States of America. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment background check, motor vehicle records check and pre-employment drug screen. Must possess and maintain a driver\'s license valid in the State of Colorado and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle at time of employment.
  • Ability to obtain DOT certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Ability to obtain Flagger Certification through the City of Fort Collins when hired.
  • Ability to obtain Railroad certification (Security and Safety training) when hired.
