Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking an Instrument Person to join our survey crew in Holmdel, NJ. This role supports field surveys, data collection from the ground and subsurface, and safety compliance.

You will operate Total Stations, GPS and data collectors, upload field data, drive the survey vehicle when needed, and help maintain equipment. A strong team player with basic math and English communication skills is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School/GED or equivalent.
  • 0-2 years of experience.
  • Valid driver's license may be required.
  • Demonstrate basic organizational skills and prioritizingskills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of surveying practices and equipment.
  • Ability to effectively operate/handle surveying equipment.
  • Effectively work as a team, collaborate, contribute and respect others.
  • Basic knowledge of math, geometry and trigonometry for the purpose of performing calculations.
  • Travel required occasionally, must be able to drive for long periods of time.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English to comprehend written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

  • Responsible for care and maintenance of the survey instruments and equipment associated with surveying land and preparing the job site for a survey.
  • Assist with maintaining equipment and stocking the survey vehicle.
  • Maintain, load and stock all supplies in the truck.

Requires a pre-employment drug screen and will require ongoing participation in the employer's random drug and alcohol testing program.

Compensation: $22.00 to $28.00 per hour (depending on qualifications)

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to traverse various types of terrain.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Frequently moves and transports equipment weighing up to sixty (60) pounds.
  • Position equipment in proper locations. Constantly repositions self and equipment to collect data from the ground.
  • Uses a hammer, shovel, machete and other equipment for the purpose of data collection.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Working Conditions/Environment
  • Work outside the office is required to complete survey, site investigations, on-site reviews and meetings.
  • Outdoor work requires the ability to move about uneven terrain, in wetlands, boating, and being around heavy equipment.
  • Occasional exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
