Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Crew Chief to join our Survey team in San Antonio, TX. The role involves leading one to three crew members on diverse field surveys including boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, and design surveys.

Responsibilities include planning fieldwork, mentoring crew members, maintaining equipment, and delivering accurate notes and reports. A pre-employment drug screen is required; valid driver’s license and clean MVR are needed.

  • Proficiency with data collectors, data collection techniques, robotic instruments, total stations and leveling.
  • Experience with or ability to learn 3D scanners.

Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Crew Chief to join our growing Survey team in San Antonio, TX.

Our professionals perform terrestrial and boundary surveys, construction stakeouts and as-built surveys for existing and new residential and commercial properties. Our capabilities also include the use of hi-definition laser scanners which enable our surveyors to collect data from a multitude of subjects including complex facilities, buildings and assets, bridges, structures, and roadways all of which depend upon our specialized measurement equipment and experienced operators.

Responsibilities
  • This position may include work as a leader of one, two or three-person crews.
  • Survey projects include design surveys, right-of-way surveys, topographic surveys, aerial ground control, boundary and ALTA/NSPS surveys.
  • Plan and perform an increased variety of field surveys within the defined project scope and budget, using the most efficient methods, and in accordance with applicable standards of practice.
  • May supervise and direct other survey crew members.
  • Interact with project site supervisors and client field representatives.
  • Prepare accurate, detailed field notes and reports of daily activity in a timely manner.
  • Perform in-field calculations for construction stakeout and various land surveys with moderate assistance from office support team.
  • Prepare cut sheets for construction assignments as needed. Review and determine the validity of data collection.
  • Demonstrate initiative in analyzing and developing solutions to issues encountered on projects.
  • Operate and maintain the survey vehicle in accordance with the Company vehicle manual.
  • Maintain, transport, and operate the instruments and equipment associated with surveying land and preparing the job site for a survey.
  • Adhere to corporate and client Health and Safety program(s) and all applicable SOPs.
  • Prepare or receive from the PM, the Health, and Safety Checklists. Review and instruct other crew personnel on all safety hazards, PPE, etc. associated with the work being performed.
  • Use and instruct others to properly use Total Stations, Data Collector, GNSS, and other specialized survey equipment to collect data.
  • Electronically transfer field data files, photos and associated forms to office team daily.
  • Mentor field survey staff to facilitate advancement.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED is required.
  • Prior crew chief experience is a plus.
  • Candidates must be proficient with data collectors, data collection techniques, robotic instruments, conventional field note-keeping, total stations and leveling.
  • Experience with or the ability to learn the use of 3D scanners.
  • Candidate must be a self-starter, with little need for supervision once provided with a work assignment.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required. MVR will be checked and monitored.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Requires a pre-employment drug screen and will require ongoing participation in the employer's random drug and alcohol testing program.
