Job description

Join to apply for the Survey Crew Chief role at Pennoni.

We are hiring for a Survey Crew Chief to contribute to our Transportation & Land Development projects on a full-time, direct basis in the Milton, DE area.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Lead complex bridge surveying operations by measuring for a variety of factors: roadway layout, underground utilities, slope & elevation, etc.
2. Lead field surveying operations with geodetic surveys for boundary, topographic, construction, and engineering land surveying projects.
3. Maintain proficiency with the operation of total stations, data collectors, GPS systems, and robotic instruments.
4. Gather field survey data with various methods: conventional, robotic, GPS, aerial (e.g., drones), etc.
5. Adjust & operate surveying instruments (e.g., prisms, total stations, GPS/electronic distance-measuring equipment, auto-levels).
6. Prepare field notes & drawings to perform complex survey calculations.
7. Work independently and as part of a small crew (up to 3 people).
8. Instruct and train survey crew in surveying & mapping methods, equipment use, and safety procedures.
9. Perform computations and QA/QC checks.
10. Safely operate ATV, UTV, or similar vehicle as needed.
11. Deliver high-quality work demonstrating a commitment to excellent customer service.
12. Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Basic Requirements

1. High School Diploma (or equivalent).
2. 5+ years of professional experience in Field / Land Surveying and/or Construction.
3. Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Completion of relevant Surveying training; active credentials are a plus.
2. Experience with Transportation and Land Development projects; bridge projects preferred.
3. Experience in physically demanding field roles.
4. Proficiency with modern Survey methods, technologies, and tools (e.g., Total Stations, GIS, Leica Geosystems HW & SW, GPS, Faro Laser Scanning).
5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially MS-Excel.
6. Strong analytical, mathematical, and attention-to-detail skills.
7. Ability to work independently and in a team with minimal supervision.
8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
