Job summary

Fawkes Consultants Inc. seeks a motivated Survey Crew Chief to lead field survey operations focused on construction staking and topographic surveys.

You will oversee daily field activities, operate robotic total stations and GNSS equipment, and ensure data quality while coordinating with licensed surveyors, project managers, engineers, and contractors. You will mentor technicians, interpret plans, set control points, and uphold safety standards on diverse projects.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible surveying experience under the supervision of a Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS/LS).
  • Experience performing construction staking and topographic surveys.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, plats, and engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency operating robotic total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, and electronic data collectors.
  • Strong understanding of surveying principles, field procedures, and construction layout techniques.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding field work.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise daily field survey crews on construction and land surveying projects.
  • Perform construction staking for commercial, residential, transportation, utility, and site development projects.
  • Conduct topographic, boundary, as-built, and control surveys.
  • Interpret construction plans, engineering drawings, and staking calculations.
  • Set and verify survey control, benchmarks, and construction layout points.
  • Operate and maintain survey equipment, including robotic total stations, GNSS/GPS receivers, digital levels, and data collectors.
  • Ensure field measurements meet company quality standards and project specifications.
  • Collect, document, and organize accurate field notes and electronic data.
  • Communicate effectively with contractors, project managers, engineers, and office staff regarding project progress and field conditions.
  • Identify and resolve field issues while maintaining project schedules.
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of survey equipment.
  • Follow all company safety policies and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Train and mentor survey technicians and instrument operators as needed.

Survey Crew Chief – Construction Staking & Topographic SurveyPosition Summary

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Survey Crew Chief to lead field survey operations with a primary focus on construction staking and topographic surveys. The Crew Chief will oversee daily field activities, operate modern surveying equipment, ensure accuracy and quality of survey data, and work closely with licensed surveyors, project managers, engineers, and construction contractors.

The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, and capable of working independently while maintaining high standards of precision and professionalism.

  • Familiarity with survey software such as Trimble Business Center, Carlson, Civil 3D, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of construction staking calculations and coordinate geometry.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective leadership and crew management.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.
