Job summary

Astra Surveying is seeking a skilled Survey CAD Technician to support surveying and civil design projects. You will produce accurate construction documents, topo and boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, right-of-way exhibits, stakeouts, and as-built drawings using Civil 3D.

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years CAD drafting with Civil 3D, strong data management, and the ability to work with field crews and engineers. Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years CAD drafting experience focused on Civil 3D.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2021 or newer (surfaces, alignments, profiles).
  • Experience producing accurate as‑built drawings.
  • Knowledge of land surveying principles and the ability to draft legal descriptions.
  • Strong organization and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; team collaboration.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Read and understand project documents.

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed survey drawings: topo, boundary, ALTA/NSPS, right-of-way exhibits, stakeouts, as-built documentation.
  • Import and export field and GIS data in various formats (.txt, .csv, .dgn, .shp, .xml, .gml, .kml, etc.).
  • Draft and review legal descriptions; coordinate data prep with field teams.
  • Ensure CAD standards compliance across projects.
  • Collaborate with project teams to meet schedules and quality.
  • Organize files, manage project data, archive revisions.
  • QC checks on deliverables; maintain drafting consistency.
  • Use Excel, Word, Adobe for project docs.

Survey CAD Technician

We are seeking a skilled AutoCAD Civil 3D CADD Technician to support our surveying and civil design projects. This position is responsible for producing accurate construction documents, including topographic surveys, boundary surveys, site plans, legal descriptions, and as-built drawings. The ideal candidate will be highly proficient in Civil 3D, experienced in working with field data and engineering markups, and capable of delivering well-organized, standards‑compliant drawings. This role collaborates closely with project managers, field crews, and engineers to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of all deliverables.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce detailed survey drawings, including topographic surveys, boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, right‑of‑way exhibits, construction stakeouts, and as‑built documentation.
  • Import and export field and GIS data in various formats (.txt, .csv, .dgn, .shp, .xml, .gml, .kml, etc.).
  • Draft and review legal descriptions and coordinate with field teams for setup and data prep.
  • Ensure compliance with company, municipal, and industry CAD standards.
  • Collaborate with project teams to meet schedules, maintain quality, and ensure project accuracy.
  • Organize digital files, manage project data, and support archiving and revision control.
  • Perform quality control checks on deliverables and assist in maintaining drafting consistency across projects.
  • Use supporting software platforms (Excel, Word, Adobe, etc.) to assist in project documentation and coordination.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of CAD drafting experience with a focus on Civil 3D.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2021 or newer, including surfaces, alignments, profiles, points, and data management.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing accurate and professional as‑built drawings.
  • Working knowledge of land surveying principles and the ability to draft legal descriptions.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Read and understand project documents.
