Job summary

Ethos Veterinary Health’s Veterinary Specialists of Birmingham in Birmingham, AL, seeks an experienced Veterinary Technician for the Surgery team. You will work closely with surgeons and the team, applying advanced anesthesia, nursing, patient monitoring, and perioperative care.

The role requires detail orientation, dependability, compassion, and commitment to excellent patient care and client service in a collaborative specialty hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Veterinary Technician experience in a general practice, emergency, specialty, or surgical setting.
• Understanding of normal vital parameters and recognition of abnormal findings; venipuncture and sample collection.
• Knowledge of basic surgical principles and perioperative patient care; anesthesia induction, intubation, maintenance, monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on patient care throughout the surgical and perioperative process.
• Obtain thorough patient histories and communicate with clients about estimates, invoices, prescriptions, and discharge instructions.
• Scrub in and assist with surgical procedures; assist with equipment and anesthesia protocols.
• Perform anesthesia induction, intubation, maintenance, and monitoring; manage fluids and medications.
• Provide postoperative recovery, pain management, and wound care.
• Maintain anesthesia equipment and surgical instruments; ensure safety and cleanliness.
• Capture diagnostic images and collect samples for testing; manage drug records.
• Communicate effectively with clients and veterinary team members; collaborate with doctors.
