Job summary

J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College in Richmond, VA seeks a full-time Surgical Technology twelve-month teaching faculty member.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher.
  • Graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
  • Credential in surgical technology through a national certification program accredited by NCCA.
  • At least three years of documented experience in the scrub role, Surgical Technology instruction, or a combination of both within the preceding five years.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the curriculum and student evaluation processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Hiring Range: Salary commensurate with the education and experience of the applicant. Hiring range is $85,000-$93,000.

Full Time or Part Time: Full Time

Job Description:

Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. Reynolds is seeking a full-time Surgical Technology twelve‑month teaching faculty‑ranked appointment. The faculty member is responsible for teaching didactic, laboratory, simulation, and clinical courses; coordinating student clinical experiences; maintaining relationships with clinical affiliates; supporting accreditation compliance; and promoting student success. The position supports workforce preparation by ensuring students receive high-quality educational and clinical learning experiences that align with professional standards and employer expectations.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate degree or higher
  • Graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
  • Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on certifying Agencies (NCCA).
  • Have at least three years of documented experience in the scrub role, Surgical Technology instruction, or a combination of both within the preceding five years.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the curriculum and student evaluation processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Additional Considerations:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Teaching, precepting, staff development, or clinical education experience
  • Experience with clinical coordination and student advising
  • Experience with accreditation and outcomes assessment
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively in both didactic and clinical settings, including course development, student assessment, course evaluations and advising.
  • Education to include principles of teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate technology routinely into instructional responsibilities (multimedia, flipped classroom teaching strategies, and test construction).
