Job summary

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Program (CAAHEP/ABHES) OR military surgical tech program OR LPN OR CST/TS-C certification.
• BLS certification from American Heart Association or Red Cross.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon in the scrub capacity.
• Scrub, gown and glove according to policies and procedures.
• Set up table with instruments and supplies according to standard.
• Assist and anticipate needs of surgeon in instruments, sutures, sponges and supplies.
• Assist in preparation and draping of patient and operative area.
• Perform counts of instruments, sponges and needles with circulating RN and report discrepancies.
• Assist in application of dressing and casts.
• Maintain equipment and perform routine terminal cleaning and decontamination.
• Assist surgical team as circulator under the direction of a registered nurse.
• Transport patients and assist preoperative preparation and room inventory.
• Assume on-call responsibilities or arrange coverage.
• Remove trash and clean rooms after cases.
• Wipe surfaces and maintain clean floors between cases.
• Clean anesthesia equipment and stock supplies after each case and end of day.
• Sterilize and inventory reusable anesthesia equipment and monitoring tools.

Education

Surgical Technology Program accredited through CAAHEP or ABHES OR Military Surgical Technology Program OR Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) OR Surgical Technologist Certification (CST or TS-C)

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through AHA or American Red Cross
