Job summary

Parkland Health and Hospital System is seeking a Surgical Technologist Educator who collaborates with OR Leadership, RN Unit Based Educator, and OR RN Residency Educator to ensure scrub staff are trained and operate within AST, AORN, Joint Commission, FDA, CDC, OSHA, AAMI standards and Parkland guidelines.

The role involves coordinating orientations, assigning cases, monitoring progress, and upholding professional and patient-safety standards in a fast-paced OR environment.

Qualifications

• Must demonstrate a basic working knowledge of surgical equipment, instruments and procedures.
• Must be able to set priorities and perform under stressful situations.
• Must demonstrate knowledge in use of aseptic techniques.
• Must communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Must be able to work a change in shift, or flexible hours when required.

Responsibilities

• Works with RN Unit Based Educator to orient new employees and students to department policies and resources.
• Assigns appropriate cases to orientee/student and monitors progress.
• Makes availability for staff in scrub role questions and learning needs.
• Exhibits professional behavior and serves as a role model for students and staff.
• Promotes patient safety and safety for staff.
• Creates a positive learning environment and advocates for student status as learner.
• Performs regular feedback meetings with students/orientees and maintains communication with OR personnel.
