Job Summary:
Assist and handle the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. Gain an understanding of the procedures being performed and anticipate the needs of the surgeon. Ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and function cooperatively with physicians and staff exhibiting teamwork characteristics.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the daily flow of the surgery center (staffing, supplies, sterilization, templates, etc.)
- Accountability on daily patient-related logs (surgery log, daily check, fridge temp, ORA, crash cart, specimen)
- Responsibilities include interviewing, orienting, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; testing technician competency; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Set up a sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for the procedure.
- Maintain the highest standard of sterile technique during the procedure and after.
- Anticipate the needs of the Surgeon before such needs arise.
- Function under the direction of all policies, regulations, and procedures of Northwest Eye Surgeons.
- Follow all compliance policies and procedures including HIPAA, OSHA/WISHA.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Knowledge of sterile technique as it applies to the operating room.
- Knowledge of ophthalmic procedures to be able to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and safe positioning of patients for those procedures.
- The proper method of handling instruments, tissue specimens, cultures, and smears before, during, and after use.
- Ability to maintain a good working relationship with all personnel.
- Demonstrate excellence in communication skills- demonstrated ability to convey ideas and information, verbally and in writing.
- Exhibit initiative and the ability to work independently or lead and perform as part of a larger team, in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrate a high degree of management competency; including but not limited to leadership, collaboration, negotiation, motivational, and conflict resolution skills.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current Washington Surgical Technologist Registration is mandatory.
- Current CPR certification is mandatory.
- Five (5) or more years work related experience in the operating room or ASC experience.
