The technician functions as an instrument assistant and may act as circulating support under RN supervision; AST/NCCT/NBSTA certification must be kept active.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a recognized surgical technologist program.
• Preferred: 0-1 years surgical technologist experience.
• Required: Active certification (AST, NCCT, or NBSTA) and maintenance of certification.

Responsibilities

The Surgical Technologist assists as a member of the surgical team who works with the surgeon, registered nurse, and anesthesiologist delivering direct patient care before, during and after surgery. The technologist functions as an instrument assistant and may also function as a circulating assistant under supervision of a registered nurse.

Qualifications

Education

Required: Graduate of a recognized surgical technologist program

Experience

Licensure/Certification/Registration

Required: Association of Surgical Technologists (AST), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTA). Required to maintain active certification.
